Mesh Stenciling With Metallic Gold!

The Evil Cake Genius isn't always the brightest bulb on the tree. But that's okay... just like her two pups, Charlie and Skip, she's always learning new tricks. Charlie and Skip play dead if you shoot them with your fingers... the Evil Cake Genius makes kick ass cakes. Both very useful tricks, and while we're sure you could figure out how to do both on your own, we thought we might just share our newest trick with you.
THIS IS HUGE, PEOPLE!!!
As many of you already know, you just can't beat our Mesh Stencils for crazy-beautiful detailed patterns that aren't possible with traditional acrylic stencils. But, the fine mesh backer on the stencils make it pretty much impossible to use these bad boys with an airbrush. And everyone knows that the best metallic colors are done with an airbrush. The ECG has tried every possible combination to achieve a metallic medium that would press through Mesh Stencils. She's tried painting the Metallic Powders mixed with Vodka over the stencil, not so much... she's tried adding Metallic Powder to Clear Piping Gel, resulting in what can only be described as a "crap-tacular" brown color. But before giving up for yet another day, the ECG had a brief moment of Genius.
She mixed the Gold Powder with Vodka to make it shiny-beautiful, THEN added the Piping Gel to thicken the gloriously shiny gold to a consistency that could be spread across the Mesh Stencil with a spatula.
Then, she just followed her method for Mesh Stenciling with Royal Icing, only substituted the gloriously shiny gold/vodka/piping gel mixture for the Royal.
AND THEN, SHE CACKLED LIKE A CRAZY PERSON.
For several days. She cackled all the way through this video.
And she's still cackling now. Don't worry, she paused long enough to add a note about this technique to our Mesh Stenciling Tutorial (included with all of our Mesh Stencils).
