Be sure to weigh out the cake mix, do not dump a full bag in your mixer! If you have a large capacity mixer, these recipes can be doubled to use the entire bag. A 4-6 Quart mixer can't handle a full bag of mix without overflowing. Recipes can also be cut in half.
