Genius Alert: New Cupcake (and Cookie) Trick!

The ECG has mixed feelings about Social Media.  Despite the inherent divisiveness, the constant flow of cute animal videos and new cake and cookie ideas make it a net positive.  And every once in a while, she comes across something that makes her wonder how she ever lived without it.  A dog who is friends with a Dolphin? CHECK. And these-here videos by Sweet Sticks:

Genius! Now check out what they do with cookies!  You could use fondant, or Chocolate Paste (recipe here) for a delicious alternative for your cookies.

Simply get yourself some Activator, some Edible Lusters, and pick a few Acrylic Cookie Stencils (we've just added DOZENS of new designs!) and you're about to amaze yourself (not that it would be the first time, you amazing thing.)

The ECG hasn't tried it yet, but she's betting that you can use a big ol' cake stencil and do a dozen cupcakes at a time.  Whuh, whah?!?!!? Shop ALL Cake Stencils in the link below. Just be sure to choose acrylic stencils (not mesh) for this technique!!  And, as always, share what you make with us!!!!!

UPDATE:

The ECG was just working on our Updated Video Inspiration Pages (HERE) and she came across an old video of Lil' Ol Her using this technique to make a fondant bow with our Seamless Damask Stencil!  It's an oldie but a goodie, and since she shot it before the existence of activator, she simply dry-brushed the luster onto the fondant. Check it out:

Is that just standard buttercream? and what is the paper that is placed under the stencil before the cake is upturned on it? Amazing technique though! cant wait to try it!

The paper is parchment paper, to keep the icing from sticking to the table. Crusting buttercream is probably the easiest to use with this method. If you can let the cupcake chill a bit with the stencil in place, that will likely make removal easier.

Social media is definitely a mixed bag—and this is the perfect example of a smaller account’s idea being taken by a larger account, who has taken credit for it and claimed it as her own. Pretty sad.
