Paint-Your-Own Cakes
Painting on cakes and cookies is not only beautiful, but it is damn fun! It's no surprise that PYO cookies are a hit at parties, and if kids can do it, you can too! Despite being terrified to free-hand, ECG has been painting Cakes and Cookies for decades. And she's going to share her secret to turning something stressful into one of her favorite caketivities (yeah, it's a word...at least now).
Technique #1: Defined Painting
It really can't get any easier than this. Stencil the pattern onto the cake, or even onto an icing sheet (click on first cake for video), then paint in the details. You can paint with any edible paints, or petal dust mixed with cooking oil if you're filling in details over black stenciling and you want to be super sloppy without smudging the stenciling. It's ridiculously impressive and works for tons of different styles!
Technique #2: Blind Painting
This is the best way to get a completely hand-painted look without the anxiety. Simply stencil the pattern onto the cake in White, and paint over the pattern with edible paints or petal dust mixed with cooking oil or alcohol.
