The ECG is always on the lookout for new tools. Not only do they make her work faster and better, but they inspire new techniques (most of the time by mistake!) So when she did her latest Instagram Live to test out her newest chocolate tools, she had no idea that she was about to make a Big Ol' Buttercream Discovery!
It all started with these intriguing Chocolate Leaf Formers. She had seen them used by pastry chefs before, and thought that they could be an easy way to accent buttercream flowers (she's always felt that buttercream leaves looked like an afterthought next to the gorgeous flowers.) So in order to try out these formers, she had to pipe some buttercream flowers to showcase the leaves. Buttercream flowers are NOT her strong suit, but she just got in a new set of Chrysanthemum Tips that she had been wanting to try, so she whipped up some Peony-ish flowers using the new tips, and they were actually quite fun to use! (That...is discovery #1)
Buttercream discovery #2 happened DURING the Instagram Live! A few minutes before the live demo of how to make chocolate leaves, the ECG had an idea. What if she used the leaf formers to create buttercream leaves directly on the cake? So she had Jenna whip up some green buttercream. The chocolate leaf formers did just what they promised...they created amazing 3D leaves that stood out among the flowers beautifully.
But then, the ECG tried using one of the leaf formers on the back side of her demo cake. And just like that, she has a new favorite buttercream technique! OH! Because this is a demo cake, the ECG didn't use gloves since this cake wasn't going to be eaten... haha. We got a lot of comments about this on social media ;)
She can't wait to try this technique with the other Leaf Former shapes, and to try it out horizontally instead of vertically! People already suggested using the technique for mermaid cakes and dragon scales.
